April 9 (Ko Phi Phi)

April 9

We woke up early to go diving. The first dive was at Bida Nok which started out okay but progressively got better. Highlights of the dive included: descending down the limestone wall to two blue spotted rays, Steph spotted an octopus, rockfish and three moray eels. After the first dive we had lunch at Maya Bay where parts of the movie The Beach were filmed. Unfortunately, Maya Bay has become such a tourist destination that it hardly resembles scenes in the movie, however, the crystal clear water and large limestone cliffs were still amazing to see. During the lunch break we also jumped off the boat, which took Steph a few minutes to get over her nerves. The second dive was along Maya Bay and featured: sea horses, seal face puffer fish (second most poisonous fish if consumed), porcupine fish, hawksbill turtle and the banded sea krait which is a sea snake and the sixth most poisonous sea creature in the world.

Once back on land, we grabbed a drink with our dive partner Bridgette (from Holland) and ran into Jay, the German girl we met at Rai Leh and her friend James (from Australia). In the afternoon we relaxed and for the sunset walked up to the viewpoint with James, Bridgette, and Jay and hung out there for a few house. We all had a great Thai dinner at Papaysa, which I known on the island for the best local dishes. We went to a few bars on the beach at night then to sleep in order to get up early for our morning ferry ride to Phuket.
