Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia June 26- June 29

Kuala Lumpur

I know The Jungle Book has been on hiatus for a few weeks so I'm doing my best to catch up and get at it again. Briefly, I must say that being at the World Cup in South Africa was one of the best trips I've ever been on. The scene at a World Cup can't be compared to any other sporting event I've ever attended. Besides the excitement of the soccer and the scene, it was certainly great to see some friends from back home, including Nerf, Lauren, James, Daniel and Joey.

Upon returning from South Africa, I've been traveling around Malaysia. I flew to Kuala Lumpur where I spent 4 nights and really enjoyed the city itself. In fact, thus far it may be my favorite capital city in SE Asia. It's heavily Chinese and Indian influenced so it's very diverse (plus the food is amazing) and combines a classical style with a modern city. There's also very few people trying to sell you anything and everything on the street, which is a nice change from other parts of SE Asia.

Some of the highlights of KL included visiting the Batu Caves (dedicated to Lord Murugan. It is the focal point of Hindu festival of Thaipusam in Malaysia); China Town (which has some of the better food in KL); The KL Tower (the second largest tower in the world); The Petronas Towers (the largest twin towers in the world); and watching the England vs. Germany game at the fanfest park (I was glad to see England loose).
